Mediocrity occurs because you choose to put in the minimum amount of effort that's acceptable. Mediocrity is a choice--the same way that excellence is.

Plain and simple, being average is easy. Fighting mediocrity... not so much. It is ingrained in most of us to take minimal risks in life, but the problem with that is it leads us down a path of mediocrity. No one ever became extraordinary by playing it safe all the time. Playing it smart, of course, but safe? Not a chance. Risks are just that--risky. But how much better to go out and take a risk than to continue to live a life that God didn't create you for?!

Another problem is too many of us want to put in minimal effort, but expect maximum results, and even worse--we want them now. "Greatness is earned, not given." You are not entitled to greatness, to success, and your daily actions should reflect that.

Fighting mediocrity isn't easy are you ready to live the life God designed for you? Here are a few tips to push you towards greatness:

Find inspiring people

Think of the people you spend most time with. What are these people doing in their lives? How passionate are they? Do they inspire you? Do they motivate you? Do they encourage you? If the answer is no, then it’s time to evaluate who you are choosing to spend your time with. You want to be around people who make you want to find the greatness within you. Drop the people who aren’t helping you reach the next level. Experiences, accomplishments and success don’t mean much of anything if you’ve got no one to share them with--just make sure they're the right people.

Mediocrity is excellent to the eyes of mediocre people” -Joseph Joubert

Take necessary risks

In life we all have choices to make. When assessing our choices, we typically over-estimate the probability of something going wrong and we exaggerate the consequences of what might happen if they do. If something does go wrong, we under estimate our ability to handle the consequences of the risk and we deny the notion that doing nothing can, in fact, be the biggest risk of all Fighting mediocrity means that you have to acknowledge that there will be necessary risks that have to be made. And you have to be OK with that.

Know your reason

Would you choose to go through something painful without the hope of any reward? Probably not. Taking risks, fighting mediocrity, working towards greatness, it's all going to be painful at some point during your journey. But if you constantly remind yourself of the reason behind all the pain, you'll be amazed at how far you’ll be able to push past it.

Find your own path

Those who have achieved the most are usually those who have veered from the normal paths in life. Your path shouldn't look like anyone else's. God has created a unique path just for you. Take a step away from the ordinary to find the extraordinary life God intended for you!

Head down the path that God designed for you with people that inspire you while taking the necessary risks needed to achieve greatness. The most important thing I want you to take away from this is that God did not create you to be mediocre. We are all made unique and the qualities that we are given can contribute greatly to this world. Don’t get stuck doing what is easy and miss out on your purpose. God made you in His image, and those are some pretty big shoes to fill. Try living life as if each moment was the moment you were created for.

Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.” Esther 4:14
